Bexhill Lions Club was delighted with its first charity Cream Tea at the recent Bexhill 100 Classic and Custom car show.

On offer were a wide range of homemade cakes and a choice of scones baked by Wards of Bexhill. Tables with coloured cloths and fresh flowers were within a double marquee, with light background music adding to the occasion. There were also additional tables outside and orders were delivered to the tables by smartly dressed waitresses and waiters.

Event organiser VP Lion Simon Edwards commented “There has been a lot of hard work preparing for the event but it was well worth it. Our customers loved the venue, the menu choices on offer and the personal service. We actually sold over 150 cake portions and did really well with take away teas and coffee.”

Andrea Etheridge, Community Services lead added “It was a great day and we were very pleased to be able to invite Age UK East Sussex and Warm Up the Homeless to join our “charity village”. In addition to the teas there were children’s games, a football challenge and a doggy photo booth. Overall we had proceeds of around £800 which will got to our continued support of good causes in Bexhill”.

Simon added ” We are very grateful to the motoring club for letting us be part of their day and to Wards of Bexhill. In addition, a big thank you to those that responded to our Facebook appeal for china cups, saucers, plates and teapots. We hope to be back next year and are now well prepared to offer our impressive Charity Cream Teas at other events. Do keep an eye on our Facebook page and website for details of future events.”
