Community Services – Bexhill Lions Club

Our club aims to help those in need and support good causes across the Bexhill community. We are all local, and we have a good understanding of where we should focus our efforts.

Throughout the year, local charities and good causes approach us to support a wide range of specific activities or much needed items. We have provided specialist mobility equipment for local residents, books and art materials for a local charity who support children to help explore their feelings around bereavement or family illness and hall hire and refreshments for Dementia friendly film screenings for a local support group.

Our activities are wide-ranging. We recently planted a selection of 50 native British trees and 500 native British Bluebells in Collington Woods. We provide marshals to enable the Royal British Legion Remembrance Day parade to take place and organise an annual family-friendly 2km and 5km Santa Dash to allow people to raise money for their own chosen charities.

Health and well-being are areas of focus for us. We collect and recycle unwanted spectacles and hearing aids and provide our free ‘Message in a Bottle’. This is a simple and effective way to keep vital medical details, where they can be found in an emergency – in the fridge.

We support the emergency services in a number of ways, including purchasing community defibrillators, donating small teddy bears to the ambulance service to help distract and comfort children in unfamiliar surroundings, and giving donations to the Air Ambulance Service.

We assist Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance, which can be making teas and coffees and their events or volunteering at their ‘Memory Walk’ along the seafront.

We are Autism and Dementia Friendly having had training locally and aim to make our community events as inclusive as possible.

We are able to provide this support from funds raised by donations from the public and our own Fundraising activities throughout the year. EVERY PENNY goes to a good cause.

All of the Community activities that the club is involved in requires time, commitment, and dedication. If you see yourself as an individual that would like to help others, please contact the club for details of membership.
