Bexhill Lion, Brian Mewett has been given the highest award in the Organisation in recognition of his work in the local community, during his 40 years service with the club.Lions Clubs International (LCI) recognise special achievements by awarding a “Melvin Jones Fellow Award”, named after the founder of Lions Clubs International. The award reflects the ideals, mission and purposes of LCI, summed up by the motto “We Serve”.The award was presented by District Governor David Butler OBE at the recent 48TH Charter Dinner and Dance. In presenting the award David said that Brian was a “grafter”, preferring not to take on a specific role in the Club. After receiving his award he returned to his table to a standing ovation.
Lion President Andrea Etheridge added “Brian is a role model for Lions. Always there when needed, helping and supporting wherever he can. He has given outstanding service and is an irreplaceable member of the Club, truly valued by us all, as both a Lion and as a friend.”
His wife Val added “I am so proud of Brian and it is wonderful and so fitting that Bexhill Lions have recognised his contributions.”
