Lion President Richard Winrow said “On behalf of Bexhill Lions Club I would like to thank the hundreds of people who have supported our activities during December. We held a variety of FUNdraising activities, some of which were part of a community wide effort to bring back festive fun to the town. All the proceeds from the events will be used to continue our support of local good causes as well as charities such as the Lions International Blood Research Appeal(LIBRA) and Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex (AAKSS).

This year we had some great Christmas crackers:

Hampers, for the ever popular “Christmas Hamper Lucky Draw” could be found in businesses across the town with a lucky winner at each one.

With the support of Bexhill 100 Motor Club, Santa and his sleigh were at a number of locations across Bexhill, together with classic cars in Festive livery.

Over 220 Children were delighted with Santa’s Grotto at Wetherspoons’ The Picture Playhouse. They had amagical experience of meeting Father Christmas in his grotto and telling him their Christmas wishes. This year a quiet time was made available when the Grotto lights were dimmed, the music turned off and communication with Santa’s helpers kept to a minimum. Organiser Lion Di Ryan said “We wanted to create a more welcoming experience for children with autism and other sensory needs. We wanted them to enjoy the thrill of meeting Santa in a more calming and welcoming environment.”

Members were also kept busy at the “Light Up Bexhill” event offering warming gluwein/ mulled wine and mince pies to the large crowds gathered for the event.

The spectacular laser light shows with music and graphics held at the De La Warr Pavilion were a great success and we were there selling a range of glo-sticks for the children.

The Club was also at Tesco on Christmas eve collecting for their good causes.

As well as FUNdraising, Bexhill Lions were also busy supporting community activities.

They were on hand at the Sidley Festival Fun Christmas lights switch on, to help with marshaling the large crowd which turned up. The event was organised by Heart of Sidley and afterwards we continued to help to ensure that the crowd had a safe journey to the School hall. We also had a Lego building table alongside craft stalls and Glitter bar. All money raised went to HoS and All Saints PTFA.

We gave support to the special awareness event organised by The Bexhill Dementia Action Alliance withClub Members helping with refreshments.

FUNdraising Chair Di Ryan commented “In these difficult times we were able to have a great fun packed and busy December, bringing some fun and joy to the residents of Bexhill. We are extremely grateful to all who donated and to the local businesses that supported us.

Our amazing Lions worked really hard and now have a post Christmas meal to look forward to in January. We would like to wish all readers are very Happy and Safe New Year”
