Students’ talent shines at Lions’ Peace Poster competition
Pupils from two Bexhill Senior Schools have won awards for their outstanding artwork, reflecting peace and understanding in the world.
Stella Harris, the Club’s Competition Officer said “For the past 36 years, Lions Clubs around the world have been sponsoring this special art contest in schools and youth groups with more than 600,000 young people from over 100 countries taking part each year.
The theme for the Peace Poster gives young people a platform to reflect on and discuss with friends and family. And the opportunity to express their vision and inspire through their artistic creativity. The theme for 2025/26 was “Together as One”.
A shortlist of posters from each school was chosen by Stella and her team. Club Members then selected the winner and runners up, based on originality, artistic merit and interpretation of the theme.
The School Winners were: Amelia Carter from St. Richard’s Catholic College and Aida Ballinger from Bexhill Academy.
These two winning posters were then entered into the S.E. England District competition. This resulted in more success for the students, with
Amelia Carter being awarded first place (for the second year running) and Aida Ballinger coming second.
As this is a progressive competition, Amelia’s poster was then entered in the National competition, where it came third, again for the second year running.
At school presentations Amelia and Aida received a certificate and voucher and their schools were also awarded prizes.
Lion President Sue Saunders commented “Bexhill Lions Club has been a long term sponsor of the contest at both Junior and Senior levels and has a strong success record in the competitions, with many winners at District level and also at National level. We would like to thank the schools for their support of the competition and all the pupils who spend so much time designing these amazing posters.”
Lion Stella added “The quality of work continues to impress, and reflects the outstanding creative talent that our schools are nurturing and encouraging.
We are also delighted that these winning posters will be displayed on the new Footbridge Gallery so that they can be enjoyed by everybody. We are very grateful to Diana Birch for arranging this.”
