Last Tuesday, Margaret Yendell celebrated her 100th Birthday with her family and was delighted to receive Birthday greetings from Her Majesty the Queen.

Another surprise awaited her, as the family had organised for Bexhill Lions to place a flock of Flamingos on her front lawn. The Lions made it even more special by placing two flocks to greet her, together with balloons.

Mrs Yendell was married in 1947 and moved to Normans Bay in 1971 and then came to Bexhill in 1985. Her husband served in the Royal Marines and sadly died last year.

She was a nursing Sister in Manchester during the Blitz and has been a member of the WI since she was 14 years old. She is still a member of the Little Common. Branch.

Margaret enjoys a daily walk along the promenade and the company of her 5 children, 12 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren.

Lion Pam Edwards organised the event and commented  ” We are resting the flamingos for a few months, but felt we just had to celebrate Margaret’s 100th Birthday. A remarkable and lovely lady who has seen so many changes over her 100 years. We wish her well for many Birthdays to come.”
