Bexhill Lions Club regularly holds social events for Members and Friends of Lions. Monday 25th was therefore a great opportunity to hold an on-line supper to celebrate Burns Night.
Organised by Lion President Simon Edwards and Lion Pam Edwards the evening started with music of Scotland the Brave. The Haggis was then paraded in to “Pipe in the Haggis” and Simon, resplendent in a kilt, addressed the Haggis in traditional style. Glasses were charged to make the toast to the Haggis before guests enjoyed their meals at home.
There were recitals of poetry including “Thy Bonnie Face” and “To a mouse”. David Butler gave a lively Address to the Lassies, which was responded to, with equal humour, by Pam.
These were followed by guests giving unusual and interesting Scottish facts and telling jokes and stories to keep everyone amused. These were followed by a toast to Bexhill Lions.
The Scottish quiz, set by Caroline Hicks, had the guests racking their brains for the past couple of days. They were put out of their misery with the answers and revealed Stella Harris as a worthy winner.
Simon gave a vote of thanks and the evening ended with a rendition of Auld Lang Syne.
One of the guests commented “I was definitely cheesed off with this third lockdown and was feeling quite low, but last night’s event really cheered me up and we had a great time.” The Club is now looking forward to hosting a real Burns Night Feast next year.
