The Club has donated £500 to The Pelham to help furnish rooms as part of its basement renovation project. The Pelham was originally built as a hotel and opened in 1901 with 8,000sq feet over 3 floors and a basement. It was a good family pub for many decades before becoming more a notorious pub in latter years before closing in 2009. The Pelham Trust took over the building in 2012.

Since then it has been transformed into a vibrant and successful community hub under the stewardship of CEO Ollie Jeffs and now operates as a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation).

Two of the three floors have been fully refurbished for community space,

offering a range of activities, support and opportunities. These include Running Space groups, suicide awareness, debt advice, exercises classes and training events, Pelham Growz, School for Entrepreneurs, crafting connection and P84 Youth Group.

The basement project is creating 3 rooms for supporting children and families in need. The furnishings will include seating for group counseling, therapy and youth clubs as well as storage and shelving.

Sue Saunders, Community Services Chair said “This is a great place that offers much needed support across a wide range of needs. It is a safe environment and also offers a social space with its cafe. We are delighted to help them and look forward to seeing the completed basement at the end of July.”

Fundraising Manager Sheryln Barrow at The Pelham added “We can’t thank the Bexhill Lions enough for their continuous support and this amazing grant. It will help us to furnish this new floor and make it a home, for vital local services and the groups who provide this support”.
