Bexhill Lion, Rick Hough has been given the highest award in the organisation in recognition of his work in the local community, during his 33 years as a Lion, the past 12 years being with Bexhill Lions Club.

Lions Clubs International (LCI) recognise special achievements by awarding a “Melvin Jones Fellow Award“, named after the founder of Lions Clubs International. The award reflects the ideals, mission and purposes of LCI, summed up by the motto “We Serve”.

The award was presented by President Simon Edwards at the final Business meeting of the Lions’ year, which was held in marquees in the garden of Lions Rick and June.

Lion President Simon said “Rick has shown huge commitment during lockdown in helping us to continue to raise funds for those in need, managing all our business and social zoom meetings, maintaining our web site as well as being Club Secretary. This award not only recognises Rick’s contributions over the past year but also for his outstanding service over the past 33 years. He is an outstanding Lion and plays a major role in all aspects of the Club’s life.”

On receiving the award Rick commented ” This has come as a complete surprise and I am honored to receive it. We all know the past year has been a challenge, but we have risen to it. We have attracted 8 new members, raised funds through “You’ve been Flamingoed”, sales of unwanted books and CDs and a number of zoom events. We have also continued our support of those in need and good causes. It’s a great Club to be in and there are exciting times ahead. Thank You.”
