This years Santa Dash was hailed a “roaring” success by organisers, Bexhill Lions Club. The terrace at the De La Warr Pavilion was buzzing with excitement and anticipation as people collected their suits.
Prizes were given to the best dressed dog, pram and wheelchair.
Around 140 participants of all ages donned Santa suits including fluffy white beards and some children even wore reindeer antlers. Families ran together, Charities took part ,prams were decorated and dogs wore amazing outfits as well as tinsel.
The participants were assembled on the promenade ready for the count down. The Mayor Kathy Hamer sounded the starting hooter and a wave of red and white traveled along the promenade.
All those who took part received a medal, presented by the Mayor and Lion President Andrea Etheridege. The Santas, some a little red faced were then offered mulled apple juice and biscuits, courtesy of the DLWP.
Comments included “It was great fun with great support from the onlookers”” great fun everyone should do it next year” “fantastic… great fun” A mother with her daughter said “We are doing it for fun and to support the Lions”
Event organiser Brian Comber said ” Firstly a big thank you to all who took part who made this such a successful event. We are very grateful to Blue Response for the first aid cover, local businesses and organisations who helped promote the event,and the DLWP for their ongoing support and the refreshments which were enjoyed by everybody. Also thanks to Members of the Lions Club as well as Friends of Bexhill Lions for their hard work in planning and running the event.
Lion President Andrea added “We have always wanted the Santa Dash to be a community event that puts the FUN into FUNdraising. Talking to the Santas we certainly achieved this. We hope to see them all again next year with even more fun loving and caring locals taking part”.
